Grimsby Jazz has a great line up of monthly gigs for its Autumn Programme

The Nikki Iles Trio on Wednesday 6th September 2017
 ‘Iles displayed the rhythmic surprises, shape shifting phrases, playful dialogue with a mix of ruggedness and reflection that make her comparable with the great John Taylor.’ Guardian.

Nikki Iles comes to Grimsby Jazz with one of the best double bass players in the country, Dave Green, and a new face to the club Geoff Simkins on alto saxophone.

Cape Town-born Clouts’ South African roots have inspired a voyage of discovery that has led to him soaking up the joyful passion of Caribbean calypso, the soulful strains of the Indian subcontinent, the exuberant sway of Cuban dance music and the tuneful essence of Gospel while honouring jazz piano heroes. Joined by saxophonist Samuel Eagles, bassist Alex Keen and Yamaha Jazz Scholarship-winning drummer Dave Ingamells, he brings his musical journey alive with superb musicianship and infectious vigour. www.philipcloutsquartet.co.uk

The Dave O’Higgins Quartet follows on Wednesday 8th November.This quartet plays some of the most swinging music you will hear today. Straight ahead jazz firmly in the harmonic and melodic tradition, played by the finest UK-based jazz musicians at the peak of their distinguished careers. They will be playing a mixture of new originals and standards from the latest recording, “It’s Always 9.30 in Zog” (JVG Productions 2017) Geoff Gascoyne bass, Sebastiaan de Krom drums, Graham Harvey piano.

The last gig Grimsby Jazz have at the Old Clee Club is The Orient House Ensemble on Wednesday 6th December. “A formidable improvisational array...a jazz giant steadily drawing himself up to his full height...” The Guardian. Gilad Atzmon leads the band of Frank Harrison piano, Yaron Stavi double bass and Chris Higginbottom drums with himself on Saxes.
